I love birch when it spalts like this! I don’t think there’s any more interesting or pretty wood. All the colors and contrast are caused by fungus that start to break down the wood. If you catch it early you get this beautiful effect and stop the fungus before the wood is destroyed. Carved by hand using tools I forged myself from a tree just a short walk from the shop.
