Spalted Birch Salad Bowl
This bowl is made from some of the prettiest wood I’ve had the pleasure to work with. This is Black Birch which fell in a storm a year ago. I monitored the moisture and kept eye on the development of fungus which created the spalting seen here. Birch is typically a warm creamy color, but with spalting, we see an incredible range of colors. Warm honey tones, creamy whites, reds and blacks are all present. This is a truly exquisite piece of wood, but it’s not only beautiful, it’s functional and designed to be used. It’s a great size for serving, salads or used at a fruit or popcorn bowl. This bowl will give you joy every time you use it for years to come!
