Exquisite Spalted Chestnut Oak Bowl
This bowl is one of the my very best! Turned from an unreal piece of Chestnut Oak, this bowl is heavily spalted in the sapwood, the result of fungus entering the wood as decomposition starts. If caught at the right time, it can be stopped before the wood loses it’s structural integrity. In addition, the form here is classic, with lines that start slowly and accelerate as they approach the bottom of the bowl. I’ll pat myself on the back here and say the execution is spot on, with 3/8” walls and processed so as to allow the spalting to be seen both inside and outside in abundance!
